Round Two

I’m so humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response and support I’ve received.  Thank you!

We’re advancing to the general election and it’s going to be a tough race.   This week we will essentially press the restart button and start all over again.  What got us through the primary will not be sufficient for the general and we look forward to running a good race to win!!

We don’t have much time and we have very real campaign needs and welcome your insight, ideas, and suggestions on how to get our message out.  Please get involved and take a moment while you’re here to make an endorsement, host a coffee, contribute online, or fill out a volunteer form.

Thank you for visiting the site!

Fight On!

We wrapped up another weekend of campaigning.  One of the highlights was when one gentleman told me he already voted, so I said Thank you and kept going.  When I was down the street he yelled out,  “Ms. Jo, I just checked my list and I voted for you.”

Prof. Garza’s journalism class is covering elections.  One student journalist chose to cover our campaign and conducted outstanding, thorough and insightful work!  Last week I got word that another journalist covering our campaign may be part of the most recent layoffs.   I hope that this new class will transform the industry and won’t have to rely on a double major.

Best wishes to Chris who left this weekend to serve in the Peace Corps!!  Check out his adventures at www.olinabroad.blogspot.com

5 more days!

We’ve worked extremely hard to plant the seed and water it and I am excited for the fruit!

THANK YOU you for letting me know you voted!  Your vote and encouragement make all the difference these days!

Are we in an election?  It’s hard to believe how many people aren’t aware we’re in an election.  With less than 10% of the people in Burbank voting, every vote counts!  Spread the word.  This last week we are going full court press!!

Promoting Women’s Equal Leadership

Some photos from the 50/50 Leadership Forum: speaking w/ a Burbanker and smiling w/ Exec Director, Pauline Field.

At the end of the event, one woman came up to me and told me she hadn’t been able to decide who she was going to vote for.  Hearing me speak that day, she said it was a breath of fresh air.   I was so humbled.

Let’s bring a new perspective and fresh insight to the City Council!

Fireside Coffee!

In spite of different background, histories, points of view, and opinions, it was clear that everyone in the room genuinely cared about the future of Burbank.  We discussed ways to expand recycling in Burbank, the story behind the property that sold for $1, past public-private partnerships in education, and rent control in Burbank.

It is going to take everyone working together to keep Burbank moving in the right direction.

… a special thanks!

From day one, this campaign team has worked hard to reach out to all members of the community - and this weekend was a prime example!

  • We became our own mailhouse to get the job done early and under-budget
  • We hosted a double-header back to back coffee to keep adding daily to our base of support
  • We interviewed with newspapers, radio and tv to get our message out
  • We attended a Women’s Leadership Forum to stand for equal leadership
  • We walked, phone banked and stuffed envelopes

THANK YOU to all the Volunteers!

A special thanks to

Paul and Danny who reached the most houses this weekend!

Tiffany (our champion!) Mylinh, Nathan, Aaron, Mayumi, Irene, Matthew, Sasha, Jenny, Helena, Greg, Hannah, Sevanna, Ann, Melissa, Peter and Chris who through friendly competition and delirium got the sky-high pile of mailers out.

Daniel and John for saving our sign!

Noemi and Eddie for working remotely to get the word out!

Diana for maintaining our database!

The Kinzels for a wonderful spread of sweets, fire, and hospitality!

Mr. Wally Kendig for everything!

I was laughing to myself at work from all the comedy of the weekend.   We’ve sought out the counsel of many and created our own strategy  - doing things our own way with a level of creativity, efficiency and professionalism.  We’ve made some mistakes  along the way and are always learning, moving forward and making progress!

Thank You!

Coffee and Red Velvet Cupcakes!

I spent the evening talking about issues with neighbors over coffee and red velvet cupcakes.

From traffic to mansionization, and even a HALLOWEEN PARADE, we heard and explored the issues on the hearts of our neighbors.  Thank you to all those in attendance and our wonderful host family!

Over the next months, and especially in the next two weeks, I need people to host informal meetings.  Go to the Action Tab, click ‘Organize a Coffee’ and fill out a form to host one.
